Shocked Check out new rules in Oct 30th. Digger. Page 4. Confused

With economy like it is-and not able to fill fields-more expense is not what racers need. Yer right Jim , but nhra doesn't care about cost to racers. Just fine them every chance.

Perhaps, in the interest of Safety..these guys can sell the *fancy rigs, or, custom golf carts ( in favor of a plain one) ?

Safety is important.....

* Sportsman pits are as impressive as Pro pits these days....

BP, I read the article (its on page four of the Nat Digger)...They are going to be requiring a new fangled type of Helmet in all 4 of the Fastest classes...T/F, F/C, TA/D and TA/FC. Custom formed seats in P/S....Heavier Fire Jackets and Pants in a number of Pro AND Sportsman classes....even (at minimum) single layer Fire Pants in the lowly class of Super Street....There were a few other things, but I can't remember them at this time.... I agree with Erik and Wally - you can never be too safe. When I got my suit a few years ago I got a -20 even though I only need a -15. I've never understood the fire suit rules - Fire's fire, and any car can catch on fire regardless of how fast it's capable of going. I always found it amusing that the rules for blown gas were more lax than those for blown alcohol - like there's really a difference in the engines ability to stay together just because it's running gas Rolling Eyes

Cool The rule for ALL cars under 7:50 requiring a 15 instead of a 5 is what will be an added expense to a ton of sportsman slammer racers and some dragsters. Also Pro Stocks.

But the expense of Pro Stock and the rest of the Pros is so far off the charts what diff. does a few thousand more dollars make?

It has been a rule if firewall is alum and you where blown or NOS you need a 15 in Sportsman classes. That I can understand. Cool

Owning and maitaining 15 and 20 firesuits also add another exercise. Rolling Eyes 15s and 20s have to be sent back to be inspected and recertified or replaced at the judgement of the manufacturer every 5 years. They are SFI dated like a trans shield. Rolling Eyes That was done about 3 years ago I believe.

I still use a 5. The same I did when I ran in the 6's in contemporary Pro Mod. But I do not go under 7.50 with my old nostalgia match race car.

I do have a brand new 20 suit at home. Pyrotect gave it to me in 96. I was considering at that time-1. Going to a blower in Nitro Coupe Super Chevies Shocked 2. Driving a Jet Car.I had a couple Jet people wanting to get me in the Jet Business. Shocked
It ended up-I did neither-which I sorly regret Sad Confused

My 20 suit is electric yellow with huge bright purple ANIMAL JIM and lightning bolts coming off the ANIMAL JIM. The pants have purple lightning bolts down the sides with Animal Jim.

If I went to use it now-It was never dated because it was made in 96. And Pyrotect has changed ownership and all my friends there are gone. So I do not know what would happen if I sent it in. I called once a few years ago and got the run around. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

So now I have a custom suit that would prob. cost $1500 Laughing Laughing And cannot use it Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I told Linda to bury me in the Muther Fu--er. Where I'm going-I will need it! Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Surprised Laughing

great post Jim......I am like most other racers and every cent seems an uphill battle and I have worn my trusty 5 suit since the beginning actually when the old tub(same ole 62 different pipe under it) only ran 11.20's the first weekend out i got laughed at for having the 5 suit in a slow car......my response was the same then ......the fire at 120 is as hot as it is at 200.......I needed to replace my old suit anyway and i was gonna buy at least a 15 no matter what since I run alky you wouldn;t believe the track people who do not know that in daylight ya cannot see it burn!!.(same ammount who do think that nitrous is flamable Very Happy )....have had more than one blank look aboutthat at the big end!!.....enough so that I want to try and be as safe as i can.......a hans device is next Cool ERIK
