Actually, Jim became disenchanted with UDRA's "outlaw" Pro Stock format and broke away to form the Mid-America Pro Stock Association which survived for more than a decade.
He was hardcore in his view of Pro Stock and would bend anybody's ear with his opinions. However, he was also the last to offer small tracks a genuinely affordable Pro Stock Show and, all the while, made sure fellow MoPar addicts were always represented. He attended many NHRA National Events with a hopelessly outclassed combination but only went to make sure a Chrysler was in the Pro Stock pits. He was certainly the last to run a Hemi in a world of wedges and simply refused to change.
