My daily driver, 2000 Dodge Dakota 4.7 V8 will not start. By accident I found out the problem is with the camshaft position sensor. Does anyone have any idea where it is located? I feel so helpless when it comes to this late model crap.

Just drop a SBC in there with HEI & a carberator and I'll tell ya' where to look.

Mike i haven't seen that vehicle but i read it is in the right cylinder head near the front held in with a single 10mm bolt

Thanks Jim. That's what I have heard from quite a few people now, so when I get home tonight I'll have to check it out. I do like the SBC suggestion though, but you know me, it would have to be more than a SBC as far as cubic inches go.

ok now tell me how you found the ploblem by accident ?

I did a google search for error codes, and that lead me to the code I got this morning. It showed P0340 where the odometer usually is after I turned the key on and off a few times. That part I remembered someone telling me a very long time ago. The accident part was remembering the sequence.

I wasn't aware they still had the cycle the key deal to display codes on the late models after onboard 2....

When I lift the hood on this truck, I just feel so helpless because I know absolutly nothing about what I am looking at. I couldn't even tell you where the damn spark plugs are!! Up until this morning, I thought OBD II had something to do with females.
