Swingle is, absolutly, one of those men I'd want young people to be aware of...
The Garlits remarks on the WDIFL site illustrate accomplishment and success defined clearly without references to some "bottom line".
How many heros are still out there to point out in a similar manner?

Swingle and Garlits....Voigt and M/T. Amazing men....giant men who were the holy, hip genius factors standing beside giants of our sport. 8)

Great link from BP...thanks...I'm not so sure how things would have turned out if Connie Swingle hadn't strolled into the life of Don Garlits. I believe it was a crucial, pivotal moment in the history of the sport. It was a predestined event that would simutaneously shape the future and solidify our history. Like the other drivers of the FED era, he was fearless and some might say, a little on the risky side (as if it wasn't already risky!) behind the wheel...but it was his amazing mind that made the lasting mark on our sport. His ideas complemented Garlits' innovations and experiments perfectly. I have no doubt that Big Daddy would still be Big Daddy, the museum would be there, and all other accolades would have come his way. But ladies and gentlemen, I present to you drag racing's breakthrough concept of all time...the first fully-functional and competitive mid-engine Top Fuel Dragster...Swamp Rat XIV...Garlits and Swingle's salvation piece. Thanks, Swingle is not really adequate. You came along and changed everything forever in a few minutes with a slide rule you pulled out of your toolbox. We are eternally grateful to you. WC1
