Just got this word from Dave Wallace, Jr. Dick was the GREAT grandfather of the sport... indeed, the first "rail" dragster driver. Farewell, Dick. bp

I just received word that Dick Kraft has left us. He was the guy generally given credit for building the first "rail job" - or dragster, with his "Bug" stripped down roadster. He was a crusty old guy, with many fascinating tales. Spent much of his time in Mexico in recent years.

His Bug was the proverbial first mammal crawling out of the sea on four legs..perhaps where asphalt drags first morph'd beyond 'street' machines. A real west coast hero.

He was indeed the man from the Book of Genesis. Rest in peace, Dick Kraft, and thanks, although not an adequate word, is all I can say. WC1

So long Dick.
All you wanted to do was to go faster.
Who'd have ever imagined!
RIP
