Nitrous question

Postby Doug » Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:08 am

Looking for opinions.

I want to put a small shot on the new motor. 100-150ish like a NOS sniper.
What would you guys reccomend on the fuel system side of this.

I have a pretty good plan (I think  ) but I would like to hear others opinions.

Thanks,
Doug

Sorry buddy. I didn't mean to leave you hanging. I thought the Gator would probably catch ya on this one.

Now my experience is with 3-stage systems back in the day before we discovered a Supercharger for our deal. I used to run a Pro-shot Fogger on my Injected Monte. I was around various plate systems. We tried a lot of stuff back then. Here is my opinion, with it and 2-bucks you can buy a candy bar anywhere in town. Perhaps in view of recent events,,,I should update my saying to: Here is my.....with 2-bucks you can purchase a piece of cake anywhere, that I haven't already eaten all of it, in town.

I would install a stand alone fuel system for your nitrous sys. That way the car never sees a lean cond. I understand you are using a small system, and probably have a good pump for the car. The small sys is just your first step, trust me on this. Install a Hobbs switch to keep the N02 valve from opening without fuel pressure to the fuel side valve. If you do this, and use common N02 kits, you probably will never hurt a part. It is when it gets lean from lack of additional fuel, or you are "out of whack" on nozzle sizing that you start sacrificing to the alum gods!

Keep 7lbs or so of fuel pressure to it. This is easily supplied by any old blue Holley and good filter with a regulator. I know you are thinking Rapid, this is over kill. I know you and Wally told Mike to use 4.5 to 5.5 lbs of fuel pressure. Mike's deal is in a different league. Keep yours fat and safe. :D

Remember, do you want to go real fast once,,,,or go quick lots of times.

For sure Jim,
Thats why i am asking. I think I have a pretty good idea but getting the opinions of people who have "been there, done that" so to speak is very, very valuable. LITTERALY... I have alot of money (for me anyways) on the line and I don't want to put on a "big bang" show for anyone.

My reply from Mike's board....

OK all you giggle gas gurus...
Here is the plan, shoot holes in it if you think it's not bullet proof.

Fuel cell (S'posed to be a dang street car!!),
Gas side.. #8 -an to an electric pump, through a filter, to the regulator. 6 -an to the carb.

Nitrous side, 8 -an to (switched) pump #2 through the filter, into the regulator. 6 -an into the solenoids.

Keep my fuel pressure on both sides at about 7psi.
Nitrous will have an arming switch, WOT switch and a pressure switch to keep me from going lean.

What the hell, might as well go with a mech. roller now too!!

Meanwhile, somewhere in Mass. an evil grin dcorated the face of Mike Casella as he fans himself with Doug's cash, knowing that he has swayed the young man with the big car to the nitrous side of life........

*Evil laugh* MUUUUAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.......

doug, i'd skip the sniper and go ahead and buy a cheater system, you can tune it down as far as you want to, and it'll go to 250 when you get the hardware to support it so as to save you from buying the n2o stuff twice, all these are good replys but you don't want to run it too fat, as you can lift the top ring lands off of the pistons with too much fuel, we have ran as much as 250 on a cast piston motor ( I DON'T RECCOMEND THIS!!!! ) randy's right, as long as the fuel is there , you'll never kaboom it , i did have a nitrous backfire last year with a 150 setup and a functional ( big hole under the scoop ) cowl hood, all i could see was fire for a second, i wish i'd had a camcorder in the car. and if you go solid roller go ahead and get the priority pin oiling lifters ( comp i think ) they have an oil passage to the trunion from the oil galley providing pressurised oil to the wheels, just my 2rubles
the police never think it's as funny as i do
