I learned this morning that my first cousin Annie's daughter Rachael died Saturday morning after a long, hard-fought battle against cancer. She was in her late 30s. Rachael was a beautiful and mysterious lady, going her own way in life and living as an artist with no limits on her creative and intellectual powers. Her legacy to us is her beautiful daughter Rosemary. My son Kyle adores Rosemary, and he found a place of honor with them as a loving and very much welcomed visiting relative when he was there last year. I have to tell him when he gets home today that Rachael's suffering is now over. She is the first of my generation's children to die. God rest her and keep her. She was wonderful. WC1

Thank you. For those of us who have Facebook, Kyle made a beautiful post there. He put a picture he took from the porch of Rachael's house in his avatar and he has a picture of him hugging Rachael and kissing her on the cheek with Rosemary playing next to him. His caption says "Angels have waited for so long, now they have their way...take your place." This was a year ago.

They're having a memorial service for Rachael Sunday in LaMesa. Kyle attempted to book a flight to there and back but he was unble to secure an itinerary for less than huge money that he doesn't have at such late notice so he has to stay here. I have talked to my cousins who were with Rachael to the end and I am sorry to say that the family is at this time disconsolate and utterly devastated. I understand, yet this is not what Rachael would ultimately want. Although I did not go through what my family all did in watching helplessly as this beautiful young woman slowly died in their arms, Her life is a cause for celebration and in time they will mostly remember the beauty, wisdom and magic that she lovingly shared with us. Her legacy is Rosemary. Right now, my family in California is paralysed with grief. They are in my prayers. WC1
