I just got off the phone with George Striegal, the former
crew chief of the Qaurter Bender.
The Qaurter Bender was BB/FC built to current
alky and fuel car specs of 1978.
it ran a blown BBC / 6-71 at first, then when donovan
came out with the 417ci they put one of those in it.
the car has ran a best of a high 6.60 but mainly ran low
6.70`s @ 220mph all day long with a 3 disc and lenco 3spd. the
vega use to have a chrisman full floater rear end, but has since been changed out to a olds/pontiac housing.
George also does not recall the vega having front
coil overs, and might have been added down the road
for the lesser engine power plants it has seen most recently.
Richard Silva use to tune the vega while it was in Hawaii.
A guy named Ronnie that ran or worked at Hawaiin autoparts
use to own and run it at one time.
just a little more history on the Vega...would like to get ahold of the rearend and fuel tank that was fitted,..but will just
have to have new ones built.
