I am doing a little off-season research on parachutes for the ol' Hot Rod...
According to the 2007 IHRA rule book:
Pro Mod = Dual parachutes required. Separate shroud-line mounting points required with 1/2" sleeved grade A bolts.
Pro Stock = Two required with separate mounting points using 1/2" sleeved bolts. Safety pins must be red flagged.
Top Sportsman = Required. Should be used on any run over 150 mph. Cars running in excess of 200 mph must use dual parachutes with two separate shroud line mounting points using sleeved 1/2" bolts. Safety pins must be red flagged.
Modified = Mandatory on entries at 150 mph 1/4 or 125 mph 1/8.
Our car is technically a Modified class bracket car at this time but when we start running the nitrous we will be classed as Top Sportsman.
On motor only our car has run nearly 120 in the 1/8th, so with N2O we should easily be able to run a 125 mph pass. At that point we will technically be required to run a parachute.
How does one decide what style and brand of 'chute to run?
How does one decide if they need 2 'chutes instead of just one?
At this point, due to the fact that we will be running on some pretty short shutdown 1/8 tracks, I am leaning towards dual 'chutes.
My favorite at this time is this style:

I like the low profile nature and I feel it would be less susceptible to cross winds as compared with a single larger diameter 'chute.
Thoughts?

 ERIK
ERIK (my mind a a complete blank dunno why??).... there I really do not have to use the chute, but I got a scare one time there and I just do.a couple years ago I had put new pads on the front and they weren't seated very good I hit the brakes and started around the turn on the oval and it was goin a little faster than I thought so i hit em harder.I slid right up to the wall almost hit it!!..so with that i just use the chute......for this year I am gonna up the HP in the fogger from 300 to 400 and see if I can get it to run a little faster....with what i have the way it runs is pretty good, but i'd like to run 7.80-7.70's all the time we'll see......doesn't sound like much but at this point it's getting harder and harder to make gains without BIG changes and BIGGER$$$$
