Ron Asheton, guitarist, songwriter and co-originator of the sound of Detroit's Stooges was found dead Tuesday January 6th. He was 60. Ron, one of two brothers-Asheton, had recently acknowledged the elusive goddess, success, as a pending inductee into the RandR Hall of Fame. His grounded personality has been given tribute the past few days. Ok, he had interesting ideas re: history research and reenactment. Whatever...he was up front and honest with those close to him, generous with fans and tolerant to a fault with the industry that spurned his band til shortly before the bitter end. Oh...he was the originator of the harmonic-heavy sound which finally took garage rock past the 60's...of heavy metal itself. A very large personality coupled with surprising humility.
