Doug that is a sweet monte and a great story to boot!!
In the random rods there is a blue 72 monte that pops up thats from my neck of the woods.It was owned by Bill Reed and now by his son...all steel monte back half street car ran 8.70's all day long...thing i loved was he had one of those baby on board signs in the rear side glass that said Grandpa on board!!

You probably would have liked my Old Monte. 1983 Pro-street. 512 Injected {Hilborn stack} full power, with a/c. It was a fun car. It ran 10's with lots of tire spin even with the large hoosiers under it {21 X 33's}.

I know I would have liked it.
I like the mid 80s G-body GM cars. Monte Carlo, Cutlass, Gran Prix and Regals. They make cool hotrods. I have a line on a decent '85 ss right now. I did live up north for a while and has some rust but it's a complete car for 1000 bucks.

I don't have any room for another projecct though.

Well, this weekend, I am going to try to get the old junk motor back together and running.
I am also going to buy a new tranny pan today and see if I can get the thing to seal up.

Man, that old motor is N-A-S-T-Y!!!!

The more I look in the engine bay, the more I realize that the car is going to need to be re-wired for reliability and to have it look nice and clean. I guess that will be a winter project for me this year.

This is actually the first big upgrade to this car. Since I had to tear it down, I decided to toss a new cam in too... A little Lunati Hyd. deal. I am going to need a converter even with this little cam. I doubt I can get to that this weekend though.

Good luck Doug, ya know, I was gonna mention something about the cam earlier but forgot, the old LT-1 350 cam was a good one, or the 350hp-327 cam, or for a solid lifter street cam the 3rd design off-road 302 cam was a snorter. The first two would not require a convertor. Just some factory cams that were pretty good, and used to be cheap, don't know now. Anyway, sounds like ya already got a cam, sooo.

doug , this is going to sound stoopid but you should break the cam in with shell rotella, and a bottle of gm camshaft break in lube, the new oils don't have enough zddp in them and tend to wipe out new flat tappet camshafts, i wasted 3 before i found this out, just tryin to help.
