Hey Vic,What kind of fuel pump, regulator and size fuel line ? Whats the pressure on the regulator? what kind of fuel? just because you have pressure doesn't mean you have volume. Is it nosing over at the shift or just at 900 foot. I know it's a lot of questions but hopefully we can get you figured out.

What size of fuel line from tank to pump?
How new or old are the valve springs?
Does the carb have jet extensions?
What kind of fuel pressure?
How much timing?
How much front end lift on the big end? to much will affect level in float bowls.
What type of ignition system? Bad box means car won't get out of it's own way.
Disconnect lines from carb and see how long it takes to fill a 1 gallon container. A 10 GPM pump should fill a 1 gallon container in six seconds.

Couple of possible gremlins here:
Before you go crazy trying to track this problem try swapping out your fuel pressure gauge for another one just to eliminate it from the mix. Friend of mine chased what he thought was a fuel delivery problem for months before he finally tracked the problem to a fuel pressure gauge that was reading too high.
Saw the same symptoms one time from a too small fuel cell vent that was only noticed the first time the car saw a chassis dyno. Trunk lid was off and one guy standing behind the car saw the sides of the fuel cell suck in just as the dyno run was almost done. After a larger vent was installed the "laying down" at 1000 feet stopped.

I like Maritime Don's vent idea. Also what about electrical power.do you run an alternator?Msd say's their bow want 1volt per thousand rpm. from what you said,6.8v will be needed to run the box. That leaves 5.2v to run the fuel pump and everything else.

you might want to switch to .150 needle and seat, the fuel column will actually dwindle away to where you are just running off of what the will flow through the needle after a certian amount of time at wot, the larger needle and seat help slow down this eventuality, and as a side benifit you can run less fuel pressure which results in less areation of the fuel which means more udn udn, because areated fuel causes a lean condition. just this dumb hillbilly's suggestion.
