Perhaps the greatest epitath might be the acknowledgement that one man's life saved so many others.

Jim was involved in every facet of motorsports but his true love was Bonneville; he could be found on the salt any time it was opened for an event. His drag racing legacy is obvious; he devoted every moment of his career to the safety of the guys whom he still considered "lakes racers who switched over".

Our sport won't be the same without him.

Drag Racing and Safety Icon Jim Deist passed on after a brief stay in the hospital.

Jim, over the 50+ years, dedicated his life to improving the safety of all types of motorsports. He was an innovator, a dedicated racer, and a friend to all. Jim made everyone feel as if they were family and wanted everyone to be safe and survive in the deadly sport that we all love so much.

As more details of the final arrangements are confirmed, we will let the jet car community know of the details.
